So we 8:25 Speaker 1 went and we had pizzas cake, you know, blah, blah, happy birthday, some all that. Well, you know, 8:30 Speaker 1 this party's over at six o'clock. So at five 30, I told Megan I said, Hey, I said, I'm gonna go home 8:34 Speaker 1 with Sydney and I'm gonna get the back area. I'll clean up. I'll get the game on. It's good weather here in 23:49 Speaker 1 Florida excited to be here Saturday morning got some coffee ready. Let's talk music. Let's talk 23:54 Speaker 1 band live. All the things I am so excited. You have I have to tell you before before we get 23:59 Speaker 1 to into this and I'm going to give you the floor because you got a lot of explaining to do to all 24:03 Speaker 1 the listeners. One why nobody why you guys aren't playing the grannies right now but but 24:08 Speaker 1 we'll get in that in a minute. So a few months ago I I had crazy Mark our our self-proclaimed 24:15 Speaker 1 producer who took over the show a year and a half ago. He's in my backyard. We're hanging 24:20 Speaker 1 out at the pool. We're relaxing. And he says, Hey, man, have you ever heard of this band 24:24 Speaker 1 Felicity? And I said, never heard of him. And he goes, dude, they're amazing. You got, you've 24:29 Speaker 1 got to listen to this. And he's making me he's trying to make me listen to your music and the 24:32 Speaker 1 weather and the weather and I don't and dude, I don't I don't trust him ever with anything in life. 24:39 Speaker 1 I don't think I can ever trust him. So I said, dude, you're stupid. And he goes, well, I got tickets 24:43 Speaker 1 to go see them. Will you go with me? Now, this concert's like three months away. So whenever it's 24:49 Speaker 1 three months away, I say yes to whatever he says, because I feel like I can just get out of it, right? 24:54 Speaker 1 So I forgot to cancel on this dude. So it's like a week away. You guys are coming to Atlanta 25:01 Speaker 1 to play. And he says, you got to go. So I'm like, okay, I'm going to suck it up. I'm going to go, right? 25:06 Speaker 1 Mike, I'm a hand to God, okay? 25:12 Speaker 1 I have, and I've been to a lot of concerts. 25:14 Speaker 1 I love a lot of music. 25:16 Speaker 1 You guys blew me away. 25:18 Speaker 1 One of the best live bands I've ever heard, 25:22 Speaker 1 the weather, I mean, King Cobra is your banger. 25:25 Speaker 1 That's your banger. 25:26 Speaker 1 But I just wanted to let you know 25:28 Speaker 1 that you now have a fan in this guy right here. 25:32 Speaker 1 I've been listening to you guys' music nonstop. 25:34 Speaker 1 I think you guys are a great band. 25:36 Speaker 1 You got great personality, you got a great vibe, 25:37 Speaker 1 and you have a great message. 25:39 Speaker 1 The entire concert, it's like family, dude. 25:42 Speaker 1 It was awesome. 25:43 Speaker 1 So with all that being said, 25:45 Speaker 1 I know there's a lot of listeners to this show 25:47 Speaker 1 that maybe they're not on the band fullicity. 25:50 Speaker 1 They have not, you know, 25:50 Speaker 1 because you guys aren't getting pushed down their throats 25:53 Speaker 1 like some of these other bands. 25:54 Speaker 1 So if you wouldn't mind, 25:55 Speaker 1 just kind of give everybody like a little bit of background 25:58 Speaker 1 about your band, 25:58 Speaker 1 how you guys got started, where you're at, 26:00 Speaker 1 and what you're doing now. 26:02 Speaker 1 Of course, 26:03 Speaker 1 and really appreciate that intro, 26:05 Speaker 1 because, I mean, you summed it up perfectly. 26:06 Speaker 1 We try to create the family experience, 26:09 Speaker 1 because it's a community 26:11 Speaker 1 when you're bringing people together with rock music. 26:13 Speaker 1 And there was a time in music 26:15 Speaker 1 where that kind of was just the norm. 26:17 Speaker 1 Everyone expected that. 26:19 Speaker 1 And then we entered a virtual age, a digital age 26:22 Speaker 1 where an artist could create themselves 26:25 Speaker 1 and put it out on social media. 26:27 Speaker 1 And maybe there was more distance from the fans, 26:29 Speaker 1 but the platforms were set up to do that 26:31 Speaker 1 with Instagram, TikTok, everything. 26:33 Speaker 1 And coming out of that age, also COVID plays a big factor 26:37 Speaker 1 in the things as well, but coming out of that era 26:39 Speaker 1 and getting into the live music experience again, 26:42 Speaker 1 we asked ourselves, what can make us unique? 26:46 Speaker 1 What can make us stand out compared to other acts 26:49 Speaker 1 that are out there? 26:50 Speaker 1 And sure, we can play our instruments, 26:52 Speaker 1 we can do all that really well. 26:54 Speaker 1 But when you create things like the Felicity Oath 26:57 Speaker 1 or the moments of separating before the wall of love 27:02 Speaker 1 And just these little moments in the show that make it stand out a bit more, bring people 27:06 Speaker 1 together, force people high five, hug, handshake, come together. 27:11 Speaker 1 And it just creates that community. 27:13 Speaker 1 And we felt it more than ever on this last July run. 27:17 Speaker 1 And that's why everything is looking more and more promising. 27:19 Speaker 1 I mean, we're almost at that point where we're looking at ourselves going, do we need 27:23 Speaker 1 our day jobs? 27:24 Speaker 1 Is this reaching that level where we don't need our day jobs because of what's coming 27:29 Speaker 1 in, royalties, all of those things. But to answer what you originally said about how 27:34 Speaker 1 did the band get going, I can summarize that pretty quickly. We are, as some bands can 27:39 Speaker 1 claim, a Craigslist band, if we remember Craigslist from back in the day, which is still around. 27:44 Speaker 1 It's just, yeah, like to be a Craigslist band is strange because you know there's a lot 27:51 Speaker 1 of awkward people that might exist on Craigslist that you never know which might get. But basically, 27:57 Speaker 1 Damien and Andrew had met up first through Craigslist, 28:00 Speaker 1 and they had done maybe some jamming together a little bit. 28:04 Speaker 1 I think they played one or two shows 28:05 Speaker 1 where Damien was playing Pace, 28:07 Speaker 1 and they just couldn't buy the bass flare. 28:09 Speaker 1 And then I happened to come across their post, 28:13 Speaker 1 the band that I was in before had ended for about a year. 28:17 Speaker 1 And I was in this very transitional phase 28:20 Speaker 1 where I almost left Orlando to go maybe to Denver, 28:23 Speaker 1 maybe to Nashville, just where there was more music 28:26 Speaker 1 somewhere else and get a change of scenery. 28:28 Speaker 1 And on a whim, I thought, you know, the Aladdin's here, 28:31 Speaker 1 if there's a band right here in Orlando, 28:33 Speaker 1 so that I don't have to move away. 28:35 Speaker 1 And then I saw the ad. 28:37 Speaker 1 And I will always say this in the interviews 28:39 Speaker 1 when I talk about the ad. 28:40 Speaker 1 It's a picture of Damien on the Warped Tour Ernie Ball stage. 28:45 Speaker 1 You can see the Ernie Ball Warped Tour thing is up there. 28:48 Speaker 1 And he's just standing there just like, it's like that. 28:51 Speaker 1 And I saw that picture. 28:53 Speaker 1 And then I saw the Warped Tour banner. 28:55 Speaker 1 And I thought my band never even got that far. 28:58 Speaker 1 So clearly these guys are doing something 29:01 Speaker 1 with proper work ethic that my previous band 29:05 Speaker 1 just didn't hit. 29:06 Speaker 1 And when I actually went in and look at the music, 29:09 Speaker 1 they had it on, I think it was on SoundCloud and, 29:11 Speaker 1 oh man, they recorded what they put up there 29:13 Speaker 1 with probably like a laptop. 29:15 Speaker 1 It did not sound good. 29:16 Speaker 1 This is, I mean geez, about 10 years ago now. 29:20 Speaker 1 And it just wasn't that good, 29:23 Speaker 1 But you see that warp tour banner and you think it's all about the hard work. 29:27 Speaker 1 And I remember watching an interview, I forget the bass player's name, 29:31 Speaker 1 but the bass player from Disturbed, once upon a time said an interview, 29:34 Speaker 1 I am not the best bass player by any imagination, but I'm going to work harder 29:39 Speaker 1 than any MF are out there and you're going to see it. 29:42 Speaker 1 And that always stuck with me because Damien and Andrew had built 29:46 Speaker 1 something from the ground up that clearly was working. 29:50 Speaker 1 So let me jump on board. 29:52 Speaker 1 And within the first, I think, year, 29:55 Speaker 1 we played House of Blues, the local Orlando spot. 29:58 Speaker 1 But still, we made enough cloud to get on the House of Blues. 30:01 Speaker 1 And we got invited to play Sun Fest in South Florida. 30:06 Speaker 1 It's a multi-day festival. 30:07 Speaker 1 There's always some big headliners. 30:09 Speaker 1 By the grace of God, we got put on Sunday afternoon 30:14 Speaker 1 two spots before Fallout Boy. 30:18 Speaker 1 So it went, it went, the pixies open for us, the pixies. 30:23 Speaker 1 Then we came on stage, I forget the band after us 30:27 Speaker 1 and then fall out boy. 30:28 Speaker 1 And we had only been a band for one year, not even one year. 30:31 Speaker 1 That's crazy. 30:32 Speaker 1 And it was like, it was, it was insane. 30:36 Speaker 1 And part of what happened was the social media boom 30:40 Speaker 1 was occurring where entities didn't exactly know about, 30:45 Speaker 1 you know, bots or accounts that are getting over inflated. 30:49 Speaker 1 We weren't. 30:50 Speaker 1 It's just they saw our account. 30:52 Speaker 1 They're like, shit, these guys have 20,000 followers already. 30:55 Speaker 1 Let's just put them on. 30:56 Speaker 1 And there were a bunch of fans that had, you know, 30:58 Speaker 1 they were undiscovered, but they had big followings. 31:00 Speaker 1 And then they got that opportunity. 31:01 Speaker 1 I remember being backstage thinking, hm, 31:04 Speaker 1 we might have gotten something that is a little bigger 31:06 Speaker 1 than what we are right now. 31:08 Speaker 1 We're going to enjoy the living fuck out of it. 31:10 Speaker 1 But I still remember the pixies are playing, 31:13 Speaker 1 where is my mind? And I'm standing side, say just recording, going, what is this? How am I a part 31:18 Speaker 1 of this project now? We're a band that has a song and fight club, a movie that I love is now in 31:24 Speaker 1 front of me. So fast forward time, that Sunfest show allowed us to get a few pictures where Damien 31:32 Speaker 1 is at, they had a T stage. So walked all the way out and easily a thousand to 1500 people were already 31:39 Speaker 1 there just for us, but they were all fall out boys people obviously. They all fall 31:44 Speaker 1 boy shirts on, but it's still the same genre of music. And the picture we got of 31:48 Speaker 1 Damien just his silhouette with the crowd, the sea of people. When we posted 31:54 Speaker 1 that, we had a guy who became one of our early tour managers. We had some super 32:00 Speaker 1 fans that we still keep in touch with to this day. Just people started listening 32:04 Speaker 1 and noticing once that picture was put out there. And fast forward the next 32:09 Speaker 1 10 years, we've tried to consistently play shows, build the name, build the brand, learn 32:14 Speaker 1 so many things about it's not just the music you're writing, but how you market it, how 32:19 Speaker 1 you brand it, how you leverage social media to put something funny or creative or intimate 32:27 Speaker 1 out there. 32:28 Speaker 1 And it brings in fans because that's how people discover bands now. 32:31 Speaker 1 And it's not just the music, it's being able to interact with the band members and their 32:36 Speaker 1 personalities, go on live streams, go on Reddit, go on Discord, all of those platforms we have 32:43 Speaker 1 explored over the last 10 years and it just creates that community that you said at the beginning. 32:49 Speaker 1 And here we are now. And it's just like a fire that is built and we're now able to just keep 32:56 Speaker 1 throwing little fuel on the fire. I forget who first said this or where I heard it, but it was like 33:02 Speaker 1 the road from zero to 100 followers or the road from zero to 500 followers is so hard, 33:09 Speaker 1 but the road from 500 followers to 5,000 goes a lot faster. And I mean, change, change those 33:15 Speaker 1 numbers. But the idea like, if that beginning phase is such a grind, and 99% of the bands in 33:22 Speaker 1 existence don't make it through that phase, because it's just somebody gets married, somebody loses 33:27 Speaker 1 interest, somebody just gets pulled into another band. But we stuck together and here we are. 33:33 Speaker 1 We're on the cusp of great. 33:34 Speaker 1 Mike, and I'm glad you guys did. And I'll tell you, you know, it's the same thing with podcasting, 33:38 Speaker 1 right? I mean, when you started a show, I mean, me and Brandon, when we started this thing, 33:41 Speaker 1 we talked about, we need to make it to 365 episodes. That's our goal. And we noticed, you know, 33:48 Speaker 1 because like you said, you start off with two, 300 followers and then you got, you know, 500 33:51 Speaker 1 listens. And I remember we had 2000 listens a day. We thought like, Oh my God, we've made it, 33:55 Speaker 1 Right. Yeah. And then it was like Brandon. And Brandon's always the one that's going, 33:59 Speaker 1 we need, we need 15,000 a day, 20,000 a day, 100,000. Like he's always growing. When I'm over here, 34:04 Speaker 1 I'm the one that's like, dude, we got 5,000 listens on that episode. That was so awesome. Right. So 34:09 Speaker 1 I get it. Now, before I give it over to your, your super fan on this, on this interview, 34:14 Speaker 1 because he's, he's chopping with the bit over there. I know, I have one question, Mike, because you 34:19 Speaker 1 said you guys are unique. And I agree, everything you guys do in your show is unique. I remember when 34:23 Speaker 1 when I first saw you, the first thing you guys do, which I sat there and I was like, 34:28 Speaker 1 I've never seen a band do this, you guys all meet at the drum kit, you put your hands together, 34:33 Speaker 1 and you say something, and then you all like break like you're a football team. What do you guys say? 34:39 Speaker 1 Yeah. 34:40 Speaker 1 You guys come together. 34:41 Speaker 1 Beautiful question. So myself and Andrew, the guitar player, we are big football fans. So, 34:47 Speaker 1 NFL fans. So, becoming together and doing the pre-game huddle, like get everyone going is, 34:53 Speaker 1 That's where that idea kind of started. 34:56 Speaker 1 But we also noticed this would have been, 35:00 Speaker 1 I think 2017 or 2016. 35:02 Speaker 1 We played Fort Rockfest in Fort Myers, Florida. 35:07 Speaker 1 We got one of the opening spots, Chevelle's there. 35:11 Speaker 1 I mean, what were the other bands that were there? 35:13 Speaker 1 Cedar was there, just a bunch of rock bands. 35:15 Speaker 1 But Popper Roach played a few spots after us. 35:19 Speaker 1 And we got to hang out backstage all day. 35:21 Speaker 1 Fun little fact the whole area where artists 35:25 Speaker 1 the 35:26 Speaker 1 Artists hang out lounge hangout area. We were just hanging out back there 35:29 Speaker 1 I'm standing outside the bathrooms while everyone else is taking a piss and one by one the members of Papa Roach 35:35 Speaker 1 Just go into the bathroom and I'm like fuck 35:38 Speaker 1 I kind of want to go in there right now 35:39 Speaker 1 But that'd be kind of weird because I have to go to the bathroom and then they all walked out 35:43 Speaker 1 Andrew walks out. He's like I just took a piss next to Jacobi Shaddick. He is a whiz when it comes to pro tools and logic and all 40:39 Speaker 1 of the programming side of things. So it's sort of like what a label is able to say, hey, 40:45 Speaker 1 play your music. We're going to get all of these things for you. It's just what we need from a label is very specific.
